Whether it’s rashes, swollen knees, nausea or impaired weakness in your limbs that has gone on for a long time – you’re probably frustrated looking for medical answers. If this sounds familiar, the answer may lay in that tiny creepy crawler that got under your skin last summer!
One possible explanation is that you’ve contracted Lyme disease from a deer tick. These tiny blood sucking parasites live in tall grasses, can fly with the wind and cleverly stick on the insides of your pants or shirts until they bury their heads under your skin. They love the hot places you offer under your armpits, the backs of your knees or the nape of the neck; depositing Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia mayonii bacteria, and leaving a bulls-eye rash as a remembrance.
Lyme disease is prevalent enough to be considered epidemic and serious enough to cause neurological symptoms, cognitive defects, heart rhythm irregularities and even death.
If you’ve recently been bitten, then a blood test may identify the disease, however, it’s often ineffective in detecting it when the bite occurred several months or years ago.
The mainstream treatment for Lyme disease is oral and/or intravenous antibiotics to lessen the more severe symptoms. After treatment, some people continue to have symptoms that include muscle aches and fatigue. The Mayo Clinic says that the post treatment Lyme disease (continuing symptoms after treatment) requires more research to discover why there are lasting symptoms for some people even after antibiotic treatment.
If you think you have contracted Lyme disease, Homoeopathy can help. Homoeopathy is a holistic healing system that focuses on the whole person and tailored to each patient’s specific symptoms and history. It’s an effective treatment and eradication of the symptoms and long-term side effects of Lyme disease.
There are a number of remedies that Dr. Kumar may use to treat Lyme disease. The remedies used will depend on the patient’s symptoms and background, but part of the treatment plan may include Rhus Tox for body aches and chills. More effective remedies include Bryonia for fatigue, and Belladonna for inflammation. Even when treating the same illness, people often have varying symptoms, medical histories and/or additional maladies, and therefore require individualistic treatment plans. It’s important to work with a Homoeopathic practitioner who can advise and prepare the most effective treatment. If you would like more information or would like to set up an appointment, please contact Dr. Kumar.

Snow has fallen, temperatures have dropped, and people may find themselves a little ‘under the weather.’  The term, ‘Under the Weather,’ comes from a maritime source, and was basically referring to sailors who didn’t feel well.  They would huddle down, under the deck of the ship, as a way to escape the weather, and the sea (visually at least).  When you have the influenza, it can feel like you’re drowning with stuffed up sinuses, and with every little wind sending chills up your body!

Chances are, you’re a bit of a shipwreck yourself, hiding under the covers, trying to keep out the drafts, and out of the elements in order to recover!

There are several symptoms of the flu, that range from mild to all out miserable.  Complications can range from  a few days or weeks of feeling a range of discomfort – to more serious ailments like pneumonia, asthma and even heart failure!  It’s important to strengthen your immune system and if the flu does knock the wind out of your sails, take something safe and effective.

The symptoms:

Here are some of the symptoms of this year’s flu strains:

  • Fever* or feeling feverish/chills
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue (tiredness)
  • Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.

There are many different flu viruses and they are constantly changing. This is why Homoeopathic treatment is so effective.  It is a whole body treatment, and individualized and tailored for each person. This means that if, for example, you have asthma and catch the flu, homoeopathic treatment would include addressing your asthma as well.  Your treatment would have long term positive health effects, on both your immune function, as well as your asthma management.  In fact, with longer term management, it is possible to eliminate your asthma all together with the right Homoeopathic treatment.

The solution:

Influenzinum is a highly effective influenza treatment for the strains of flu rolling into northern hemisphere this season.  This particular Homoeopathic dilution has been recommended by the World Health Organization and approved by the European Medicines Agency.  This remedy’s safety net includes H1N1, H1N2, and B/Brisbane/60/2008 like virus.  This is not a vaccine, but in as little as five doses, you will be feeling better and sailing on smoother seas!

Here’s an interesting fact:  The popularity of Influenzinum in France is so great – it’s the number one seller!

If you have been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) by your doctor, I may be able to predict the story of your diagnosis journey…

Your most noticeable first symptoms most likely began when you were a teenager or younger and began with embarrassing gas and some bloating. You’re probably a female since IBS affects twice as many women as men. If you went to the doctor, he/she probably told you it was Pre-menstrual Symptom or constipation and scribbled you a perception to alleviate the pain and/or constipation. After a few years, your symptoms became increasingly worse and included greater pain, cramping and either severe constipation and/or diarrhea. As you approached your mid-late 30’s and 40’s, you’ve perhaps noticed mucus in your stool, rectal bleeding and increased abdominal pain during the night. As you approached 50, you’re told it’s menopausal. Sound familiar?

Homoeopathy can help, from the onset of symptoms and prevent them from getting worse as a person ages. This form of treatment is highly affective because each person is treated individually, specific to the symptoms they are suffering from and given their medical and family history. This is because homoeopathy works as a holistic medicine; mind, body and spirit (emotions) and targets at healing the triggers and not just each of the specific body parts.

Throughout your journey of pain and discomfort, you’ve most often been through a plethora of medical tests, colon checks and taken various medications without realizing the root cause(s) of your discomfort and pain. Finally, when diagnosed with IBS, you’re probably wondering what that means, exactly.

But what is IBS? According to the Mayo Clinic research, the intestinal wall muscles are contractions are more severe and last longer than normal in IBS patients; thus causing gas, bloating and diarrhea. Or the opposite happens, and the slower contractions result in hard, dry stools. They also state that signals between the brain and intestines are not working properly or that there may be an abnormality in the gastrointestinal nervous system.

Never the less, it’s still a shocking fact that as many as 1 in 5 people suffer from IBS in North America! The Mayo Clinic research says that IBS causes are mostly unknown, but they attribute this ‘disease’ to the following:

1. Foods: allergies, intolerance, spices, etc.
2. Stress: irritates IBS, but doesn’t cause it
3. Hormones: IBS is mostly a female disease, and worse at the time of PMS
4. Other illnesses: bacterial overgrowth, etc.

Since homoeopathy treats the root cause and its remedies promote the body’s self-healing mechanisms and not just symptoms, IBS can be effectively treated with Homoeopathic Medicines.

Some of the remedies that are effective to treat IBS include: Bryonia for constipation with no urge, Colocynthis for cramping pains – doubling over in pain. Mer. Cor. for blood in stool.

Dr Kumar recommends that patients continue to see their doctor and gastroenterologist to monitor their condition.

It’s interesting to note, that the research ( indicates that besides genetic predisposition, gender and age, one of the risk factors in women getting IBS is rooted in ‘anxiety, depression, a personality disorder and a history of childhood sexual abuse are risk factors. For women, domestic abuse may be a risk factor as well.’

This fits in with the homoeopathic model of how the body is an entity, (body, mind, spirit, emotions) and must be diagnosed and treated individually, and as a whole.

The gifts that keep on giving

The tree is sparkling, gifts bundled tightly in bright green and red ribbon peek out from under, and the house is filling with the wafting aroma of turkey and sugar cookies. It’s the perfect setting for your guests that landed the night before to join in the celebrations. Suddenly, instead of Jingle Bells, it’s bathroom smells and the gross sounds of gurgling, heaving and moaning escaping from underneath the bathroom door. Unfortunately, gramma and grampa or special aunt Peggy and her cute crew of toddler-like elfins, may have brought you the gift that keeps on giving!

It doesn’t matter how painstakingly you planned the holidays down to the last tinsel of detail, if there’s a flu bug on the plane, or in the line up at the toy store, you may be in for a nasty surprise just in time for the big day.

The bugs, bacteria and Christmas recitals

The holiday season is the most prolific in the spread of the flu as families are out and about, flying to destinations in recycled cabin air swimming with bugs and bacteria, or exposed to endless hacking at kid’s school recitals. Unless you wear a Darth Vader mask everywhere you go, and sterilize your hands every ten minutes in the month of December, there’s no escape from the contagions of the season.

Stress, sleepless nights, angst, and overindulgence

To make matters worse, there’s all that holiday stress from things like overspending, dysfunctional family issues, or simply your own lack of sleep. Add to that recipe, the sugar plums, sweets and over indulging in Christmas pudding! Those holiday parties and free flowing wine seemed like a good idea at the time, but all that ‘good time’ crammed into that couple of weeks before Santa slides down your chimney, can do a lot of harm to your body.

Why some people remain healthy

Most people fail to realize that becoming ill in the holiday season is more than simply a virus or bacteria (flu). It’s a holistic issue, and involves your mind, like stress and other emotions, and physical well-being. Many people can be coughed on, or ingest flu bugs on a plane or in a home, but only some of those people get sick. Have you ever wondered why? Homoeopathy can help you be one of those resilient few that don’t get sick, regardless of the circumstance.

How? By treating the whole person, taking into account mind, body and spirit and by balancing your immune system! In other words, your body becomes its own warrior.

Homoeopathy for the holidays

Here are some quick tips in ways in which I can safely and effectively help you get healthy and stay healthy over the holidays with homoeopathy:

Has too much Christmas cake have left your tummy swelling, gurgling and feeling like you might lose it all? If you feel like you’re about to be sick, remedies like Arsenic Alb will take care of symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea.

Freaked out and stressed out this season? Is family making you crazed with anxiety? Let homoeopathic remedies get you off the cliff with Ignatia. Think peace, serenity, and coping.

Is the office party getting you stressed? Maybe it’s the social phobias starting up again? Put down the bottle, and try a healthier option like Argentum Nit. You’ll be able to mix and mingle like a pro again!

It’s not always fun and games. Christmas can be a time of loneliness and grief for many. It’s especially difficult when it seems like everyone else is joyous and celebrating. Grief is a process, and medicines like Natrum Mur, or Lachesis, can help people cope with emotions like anger, frustration and profound sadness.

Have a happy, safe and healthy Holiday Season!
